The options menu in PGR3 really gives you many more options than the average game, which is great. The graphics options is just a static image with color bars so you can adjust your TV’s brightness and contrast, it seems the game does not have that built in. The sound option menu has some great settings for speaker angles, type of system you have (tv, hi-fi, or home theatre), and whether or not you are using headphones to play the game. You may not think this makes much difference, but when you are an audiophile like myself, you will notice the difference. The music section of the options menu is where you can set which tracks you do and do not want to hear while racing in the game. Once again we suggest you use your own personal soundtrack – it just makes racing more fun. In the controller section of the options menu you can choose from 7 different control pad layouts, including one if you are using a driving wheel. The layouts are handy to have, but since you really only use 4 buttons while racing (brake, gas, e-brake, and change view), it is not something that I would consider indispensable. Nice to see that Bizarre included it anyway. In the general options section you can turn off the names above cars, the speedometer tag (Kph or MPh), how the split screen is divided (horizontal or vertical), and some of the joystick axis inversions. Useful settings to be sure. In the HUD option section you can set just the mirror on or off and the map type. If you are having problems with your Xbox Live connection, you can go into the network section of the options menu and pick some optimizations which may increase performance. Bizarre pretty much thought of everything. There is also an Xbox Live marketplace option on the main menu where you can download the add-ons for the game. At this time there is only a few trailers and game info available, but we are sure more is on the way. In summation, we can say this game is a sure fire winner for the Xbox360 system. You will enjoy this game even if you are not a fan of the Project Gotham series, and if you are a fan, you will take to this game as if you are sliding into a comfortable old pair of shoes. The game could definitely have taken advantage of the graphical power of the Xbox360 a bit more, and it doesn’t exactly feel like you are playing a next-gen game, but that does not mean that it is not a great game worth owning. |
